Mecalab designed, manufactured and installed stainless steel cladding on existing hoods to close off open areas, limit spaces likely to become retention points, and improve the cleanability of the installation.
In a sterile environment, finishing is never just a detail
A gap of just a few millimetres between a piece of equipment and its surroundings can be enough to create a hard-to-reach area where dust and particles may accumulate, making it more difficult to clean.
It was precisely these interfaces that Mecalab addressed as part of the work carried out in this area: adapting equipment already in place without altering its function, while improving the continuity and quality of its finish.
The work involved several existing hoods, for which our teams designed, manufactured and installed custom-made stainless steel finishing cladding.
Closing off open areas to improve the finish
The issue went far beyond aesthetics.
The open volumes and gaps around the equipment created discontinuities that could encourage the accumulation of dust and make certain surfaces less accessible during cleaning operations.
The objective was therefore to address these specific points directly by creating cladding designed to close off the remaining open spaces around the hoods.
Each stainless steel element was adapted to the existing configuration to ensure consistent integration with the equipment and the layout of the room.
In other words, the aim was not simply to add material, but to redesign the interfaces between the equipment and its surroundings in a clean and precise way.

Custom stainless steel fabrication adapted to the existing installation
Working on an existing installation requires a different approach from standard fabrication.
The dimensions, installation constraints and geometry of each piece of equipment must be taken into account in order to develop components that integrate precisely without altering the existing installation.
Mecalab handled the fabrication of the stainless steel finishing panels as well as their installation on site.
The work carried out resulted in a visually consistent enclosure, with fewer open areas and significantly improved continuity of finish around the hoods.
Designed with cleanability in mind
By closing off open areas and limiting spaces where dust and particles may accumulate, the cladding improves access to surfaces and helps make the entire installation easier to maintain. The equipment also benefits from improved protection.
The result brings together three aspects that need to work hand in hand: technical integration, quality of finish and cleanability.
This project illustrates an essential aspect of Mecalab’s expertise: starting from existing equipment, identifying areas for improvement and developing a specific stainless steel solution directly adapted to its operating environment.
